Beyond the Dominion defamation suit, I’m not sure what accountability would

Look like. It would be difficult to do without moving into the realm of criminalizing speech. I recognize there are limits to free speech, as in shouting fire! in a crowded venue, but this is particularly dangerous territory. As it is, we are pretty far down the path of demonizing each other. I don’t know if you saw this link from SDH from another thread - in a nutshell, David Brooks attended the National Conservatism Conference, and speaker after speaker after speaker spoke of the dem party, and all political adversaries of Trumpism, as being hell bent on destroying America and on persecuting all righties.

And of course plenty of anti-Trumpies view Trumpism and all Trumpies as enemies bent on destroying the nation.

Crimes are crimes and a society does itself more harm than good if it turns a blind eye to crimes because of some other concern, such as mine, that we all now view our political adversaries as existential threats to the country. I agree with that. But at the same time, I believe caution is warranted whenever we are pursuing some sort of “political” crime.

As much as I can’t stand the republican campaign against American democracy, if I might admit my role in this escalation that I fear (few politicos have clean hands on that front), I’d definitely err on the side of freedom of speech here. We have to keep banging our heads against this stubborn wall of dystopian election fraud fantasies, no matter how frustrating it is. It’s for about the best cause I can think of - the survival of the country, and I don’t think that’s hyperbole, unfortunately. Political prosecutions will move us in the wrong direction IMO.
