IMO normalization of all these anomalies brought about or at least exposed
By COVID is the only thing that will relieve inflation - in gas prices and in general. The WSJ ran a front page story yesterday suggesting that supply chain logjams were gradually easing. To a large extent in Asia, and to a lesser extent here, where ports are still backed up (but less so) and transportation snarls are still evident because of volume and keys shortages, like of truck drivers.
Dems have to hope there are no hiccups in that trend, like from new outbreaks causing shutdowns, particularly in Asia. Some people think things will largely normalize in Feb when Asian production takes a break for the lunar new year. I think all of this is tied in together, including prices at the pump. Dems chances next Fall are already slim, so they better pray that Feb prediction comes true.
Truth is the pres can only do so much, but he and his party will always get the blame. The truck driver thing is a tough one. Who wants to go into that back-breaking lifestyle which is likely to be eliminated by self driving vehicles anyway? Covid may have sped the resignation along before the technology is really ready to take over.
