Most cops that I know actually got pretty good at 15 minute social work. And that’s about all you get, because there are other calls for service holding. I spent over 30 years in military and civilian law enforcement and I think most people would be amazed at some of the problems that people call a police officer to their home to solve. And again keeping in mind, you only have a few minutes to work through these. Some of my favorites include, elementary school child hoo won’t get out of bed and go to school, spouse hoo is angry at spouse for cutting them off on the sex, family fighting over dead parent’s belongings before the body can even be removed from the home, neighbor hoo just wanted us to know that the lady across the street entertains strange men while her husband is out of town (that one is kinda of a nice to know). On the mental health side I have investigated alien abductions, Russians living under the house and appliances that chase you around the living room, to name just a few. But like I mentioned in a previous post, you don’t really know what you are dealing with until you get there.
