Need no lessons in this history, and there is no law in effect or being proposed that is in the same universe as Jim Crow. There are no efforts in any state that rise anywhere close to the level of white defense of Jim Crow during and before the mid-60s. Calling this Jim Crow 2.0 is histrionics on an epic level, and IMO is an insult to those who actually lived through the battle to end Jim Crow.

What we are seeing in 2021 and 2022 is not that, not even close. All we do is destroy whatever sort of discourse might have been possible without over the top rhetoric. Let’s leave that nonsense to the cult of Trump. Even after GA passes its voting laws, I think there is a very strong argument that voting in GA is still quite a bit easier than in NY. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t favor it being still easier, and I do now favor all mail in voting, but these are not battles on a level anywhere close to those fought by Rosa Parks and the voting rights activists who were inspired by and followed her.

While we’re arguing about whether this qualifies as “Jim Crow” (it most certainly does not) or whether there are modern day Bull Connors running around, the real potential for danger gets buried by the noise and the hyperbole - focus should be 100% on partisan takeovers of local election administration, and on the Electoral Count Act.
