Don't think it is right to correct 1 wrong with another wrong.


I think preference should be given based on family's social economical background rather than just race or gender. When I was applying for college, our class #1 got wait-list in Stanford. I, #2, got rejected. A black girl who was not in top 20 got in. But both of her parents were doctors and her family was very well off. So I see her getting in not fair to those socially disadvantaged students who could actually use some preferential treatment. Another example. Among whole region only 2 students got into MIT. one was a girl from my school, who didn't have advanced physics and math, not in top 20. She ended up at UVa engineering, but quit E-school after 1 semester. So I understand schools desire at diversification, but selecting students who can't meet the demand of the school might not be a good thing to the student either
