In a hurricane, a governor should...

...advise people of the risks and tell them to make the best decision for themselves. That might be leaving, or it might be staying. There are pros and cons to each choice.

Likewise, with COVID, a governor can advise people of their risks (as I did in my previous post) and then recommend that they talk to their doctor about how to address those risks. Under no circumstances should a non-health official be providing medical advice, in my opinion. For that matter, no health official should be providing medical treatment advice broadly speaking, expecially about a medication with known negative side effects that -- at best -- provides limited protection against a virus that isn't dangerous to most people in the first place.

As an aside, the core of this debate is a primary difference between people on the right and people on the left. People on the right typically suffer from less hubris, and we have enough humility and respect for others to stay out of their personal business. The left simply can't bear to leave other people alone and, despite all evidence to the contrary, think they know best for everyone else.

All this aside, it's astounding to me that anyone would advocate for a politician or public health official telling anybody what to do regarding COVID after the colossal mess they have made of this thing over the past two years. They have been wrong or lied too many times to count. Why would anyone trust their judgment or veracity at this point?
