I don’t think they replaced it based on your link - they plan
To replace it.
You do understand that these concerns about books being banned, or shelved, or whatever, are the flip side of the CRT coin. CRT basically means lesson plans that bucket kids as victimized or privileged based on the color of their skin in the fear mongering context (I don’t think that really has anything to do with the legal concept known as CRT, but whatever). We know there are examples of it, and each one of them is amplified like crazy on social media to create the impression that exists in every classroom. Same thing is happening with “book banning”. I don’t think it is happening everywhere, but any example that even comes close finds its social media/internet bullhorn. And there certainly are examples, even if the story about Toni Morrison posted here yesterday is a better one.
It is thus impossible for the country at large to really get a handle on anything, and entire elections appear to be turning on the bullhorns, which bear no resemblance to reality. But of course, the bullhorns will create our reality if we let them. Youngkin’s new vigilante-esque hotline proposal is exactly the sort of overreaction to “CRT” that will lead to shit like this becoming reality.
This mixing of spectacular examples, sometimes embellished as perhaps in this case, with internet bullhorns, is one of those primary centrifuges driving the whole damn country to political extremes.
