Think this is a politician seeing the writing on the wall. Crist is a weak

candidate who hasn't won state office for over 10 years. Couldn't beat a not very popular candidate for Senate and unlikely to beat a fairly popular governor. Given DeSantis is already having reputation of being a political bully, he probably just want to get on DeSantis' good side early.

As for the stunt, while I don't like it, I think it is likely a good move politic wise, increasing his national profile among the "conservatives" while probably not hurting his standing among the independents.
