That's a valid point

and an argument for not getting too worked up about ANY Italian PM.

That said, as a teen, she joined the youth wing of a neofascist party founded by Mussolini supporters. (I will be generous and note that her membership seems to have been motivated in part by a desire to fight corruption.)

From my understanding, it's not easy to know exactly where she stands now. She has certainly expressed views that I would consider far-right and offensive. But it also seems like she's tried to position herself as a bit more center and engaged in strategic ambiguity (in the interest of positioning her party as closer to the mainstream to appeal to a broader set of voters).

Full disclosure: I know little about Italian politics - I just read some articles.
