Congress did this once but then caved to the gun companies and let the ban lapse. 2. Ban high capacity magazines and limit ammunition purchases. 3. Require titles for guns just like for vehicles. Impose harsh penalties for owning a gun without a proper title. 4. Require universal background checks for every gun purchase and strictly enforce ownership restrictions. This is supported by the vast majority of Americans. 5. Prohibit gun manufactures and the NRA from lobbying Congress or making political contributions. This one’s a stretch however in view of 1A, but I can dream.

Long term: A sane future SCOTUS overturns Heller and interprets 2A the way the founders intended, annulling the individual right to bear arms. Institute massive gun buyback like Australia did. With roughly 350 million guns now in private hands, it would be expensive but affordable.
