From a practical standpoint, I don't think it should really matter.


IMO, premeditated murder should almost ALWAYS carry a life sentence without parole unless there are legitimate mitigating circumstances.

If you come up with a plan in advance to kill someone and follow through with it, whether for terrorism, hate crime, sexual predation, revenge, monetary gain, etc, you lose your right to live freely in society FOREVER. So who cares about intent. The end result of the punishment should be the same... life in prison. At least if I were king.
