If it were a crime to make false rape reports, Ms Erderly would be in jail.
As it is, she abused her First Amendment rights and continued to pursue her narrative long after the Gallagher story while negligently disregarding the veracity of her stories.
False accusations of sexual assault and rape are on the rise and this should disturb those concerned about the prevalence of rape incidents as well. Many here still recall the frenzy in Charlottesville after the Jackie Coakley story was exploited by Rolling Stone. In the eyes of many administrators, faculty and students, the accused (both real and contrived) were guilty without due process. In the end, the case served as another significant detraction from the very cause which they were promoting.
One may disagree with the political leanings of the author or deflect the issue altogether by using the straw man argument about real rape cases, but creating false rape accusations needs to be subject to severe prosecution.
