Social media in particular.

News shouldn't be part of the entertainment industry, but it is.

That said, I have a hard time blamimg the market for delivering the product that consumers demand. The problem is we are a nation of intellectually lazy morons who want to be spoonfed a narative from our respective echo chambers and few invest the time to think through the issues. It's not about finding the right answer - it's watching a grudge match between competing sports teams.
