recant his scripted "presidential" remarks from the day before. I suspect he knows that White Trashionalists -- meaning the different variants of them from people who say they aren't racist but think that BLM and the KKK are just "two sides" of the same thing and want to build a wall to keep brown people out and not let Muslims into our country, to the God-awful collection of human garbage that descended on C'ville -- are his base, and what is left of his support. He directly pandered to them and also tried to move the goalposts to excuse their behavior or make the outrageous claim that there is an "Alt Left" equivalent who is just as bad. In his heart of hearts, he knows that racism, xenophobia, and sense of loss/disenfranchisement by parts of white America are what put him in the Oval Office and he can't be a "healer" or a "leader" because all he really is -- and the only reason he is there -- is a fucking troll and a bigot. He knows that likeminded people are the ones who have his back and he doubled down on it. It worked for him before, so I wouldn't assume it's completely lost yet.

A lot of America is flat out effing awful. We are seeing it really start to come out of the woodwork now. I just hope that at the end of the day this means he will have a pathetic, lost, soulless, "base" that thrives on hate but is regional and ostracized and he drives away everyone reasonable who voted for him in November. I do see that happening ... although I saw it happening this time last year too and now he is president. Don't underestimate how much some of this country really does fit the "basket of deplorables' label. Although I am very confident that history is on our side and it's a matter of time. I do think this is raising awareness in a way we haven't seen in a long time too.

Now it's on the Dems to do a better job winning the hearts and minds of American voters and producing a better candidate than HRC. Or on the Repubs to find a soul. My money, unfortunately, is not on either at the moment. But there is time.
