This argument makes absolutely no sense.
You point out that Kaepernick faced repercussions for kneeling – I assume that by that, you are referencing the fact that he is currently unemployed.
That means that the players kneeling today literally know that kneeling during the national anthem could lead to them being without a job in the NFL (the opposite of your assertion that they know their jobs are 100% safe), but the issue is so important to them that they are willing to risk their jobs to make a statement to fight for equality.
And while I agree with you that the increased protests today were a direct reaction to the President, I would hardly call those reactions “cheap.” The President of the United States of America said that a group of violent Nazi protesters included “very fine people,” but called peacefully protesting black athletes “son of a bitch.” That's f'ed up and worthy of protest, no matter how much you agree or disagree with his politics/agenda.
