Taibbi has always struck me as a smug little scumbag, but seems to me the people enjoying this new focus on Taibbi's wrongdoing are the same ones who dismissed the Don's revelations of a similar nature as "locker room talk".

There is good news for people with young daughters or any young women they care about - behavior that men used to love bragging about is no longer acceptable in our society. Weinstein, O'Reilly, Trump, or now Taibbi, among some prominent others - their behavior is nothing new. Their own has been going on for decades. Powerful men have done this since there have been powerful men. Human societies all over, throughout time, have tolerated it. Even glorified it, like Taibbi's accused of doing. I have no trouble recalling guys in college bragging about things with women that would now not reflect well on them. That was the '80s and that's been true more recently than that.

Society's attitude towards this has changed, and hopefully, young girls today are less likely to face these things going forward.

Still, it has also become a new way to generate gotcha political moments. Somehow political partisans find it more objectionable, and more hypocritical, when exposed on the other side of the political spectrum. But it's not at all political. It's actions of men (I'm sure powerful women too on occasion) who think they have leverage and take sexual pleasure from power. From forcing less powerful people to bend to their twisted will.

I'm sure we haven't eradicated this problem, but the risks to abusers are far higher than they were even a few years ago. Nonetheless, the selective political outrage over it sort of cheapens the whole thing.
