The Civil War, in which relatives of mine who lived only marginally better than slaves, fought and (at least some of them) died, for those slaves' owners, in a war against the capitalists who paid the wages of the poor dumb Irish and German and Slavic immigrants who slaved in their factories and foundries and mills, pretty much cemented me as a class warrior.

It just took me most of my 64 years to realize that I too, in my air-conditioned office and Mercedes, was a sucker/loser, same as them.

Opting out is, I think, an option. Requires, if not exactly a vow of poverty, a certain asceticism, going forward. Is the stuff one gives up worth the stuff one doesn't put up with anymore?

But I like Obama a LOT more than Taibbi does. With all flaws he is an important transitional figure and IMO he is not done. I believe he will figure in the next Presidential election more than any living ex-President has done in my lifetime, and I was born in November 1953.
