Start with why tax cuts now? Tax cuts should be used as an economic stimulus. The country as a whole is doing great economically. There's no need for across the board cuts (let alone cuts for the wealthiest Americans). Certain sectors of the country are struggling. If you want targeted tax cuts or spending in those areas, you won't get much of an argument. But running up the deficit with huge tax cuts leaves little option to implement economic policies in a few years when the economy turns. Then we will want to implement tax cuts. But that will be much harder to do when we are running huge deficits. The timing of this stimulus is terrible. It's not needed right now. If you want to fix the tax code, go for it. But not to the tune of $1.5 trillion in deficits that raises taxes on people who make less than $75,000. There's a way to go about doing this, and ramming it through without input from democrats (or hardly anyone else) is not an ideal way to do it. Also, the rushed time frame makes no sense. Proper analyses have not been done. For something this significant, it should not be rushed so that everything can be reviewed.
