Yesterday. I have a few days off and my plans to go away were derailed. So I found myself watching this new Megyn Kelly show yesterday, and two things occurred to me.

First, Megyn Kelly's contract is ridiculous. Sometimes I think the competing networks are more interested in stealing each other's top draws than conceptualizing new shows. The show is ridiculous - morning talk in that incessant "Donohue" format you see everywhere. Nothing new, nothing seeming to me to make Megyn Kelly particularly suited. All she did was get into a public tiff with the Don, which we now know is nothing special.

Second, they devoted yesterday's show to a former Today staffer named Addie Zinone who wound up in an affair with Matt Lauer. She admits it was consensual, and complains that Matt was older and more powerful and took advantage of her as a wide eyed 20 something. A 20 something now much older and claiming she was a victim. She does give passing consideration to her own willingness to sleep with a married guy. But only passing.

I watched this wondering how this specifically is a scandal warranting the attention of NBC's hottest new morning broadcast for an hour. Men and women in the workplace will lead to sex, affairs, hurt feelings, people at different seniority levels getting it on, etc. Human nature is not suspended in the workplace.

I'm pretty vocal in general in support of this #MeToo movement and the hope that young women won't be forced into sex in the future. But my opportunistic friend Addie didn't assert that. She asserts she made a mistake, and prefers not to accept responsibility for it. And to take advantage of the spotlight on real victims to get a little attention, and maybe a few dollars, for herself.

We need to be a little more discriminating about what real abuse is, if we are to realistically live together as men and women in the workplace.
