China still wants NK to act as a buffer
China doesn't want a strong NK because that threatens China. They don't want a weak NK because that could lead to reunification and put US troops on China's border. China likes to carefully plan and set its strategic objectives over a long period of time. Things have been moving much faster in NK than China likes. China's deliberate approach is also clearly in conflict with Trump's approach. China feels like they have a natural advantage over the U.S. in most areas because of our system of electing new leadership every couple of years. They feel like they can just wait us out. As far as Trump goes, if we could translate WTF into Chinese, that's probably what they think of our current approach. A more moderate regime in NK could benefit both the U.S. and China. I'm just not sure how we get there? Maybe Kim has a "medical problem" that takes him out? I don't think the U.S. can get that close, but maybe China can and blame it on the U.S.? Trump would probably go on Twitter and take the credit. [Post edited by 757 at 12/29/2017 1:33PM]
