Bonsack gets the essential point.


It's all a careful and continuing balancing act -- the story of liberal democracies since 1776. Consent of the governed means crafting a majority and having the minority willing to go along with the elections. Our quasi-capitalism works with it because it offers stable free markets and a consumer class. John Locke wrote, "The reason why men enter into society is the preservation of property; and the end why they choose and authorize a legislative is that there may be laws made . . . to limit the power and moderate the dominion of every part and member of the society."

If that is your idea of "coming from someone else's freedom," freedom doesn't mean doing whatever you damn well please.
