As an Italian American, you may be interested to learn about the Know

Nothing Party and how they viewed and talked about your ancestors. Their view was that you (and some of my Irish and Eastern European ancestors too) were invading hordes of criminals and "unskilled workers" coming from "shit holes" like Italy and Ireland to steal American jobs and bringing so much of their papist Catholicism that they were undermining the country's WASP "values." Fascinating time and certainly some similarities to how your boy Trump talks about 2/3 of the world today. Only then it was the 1850s and we were so backward that slavery was still legal....so probably more an excuse for their behavior than Trumpletons have today.
