Kansas at number 5 on this list made me chuckle. Think about that. Not a huge population, but people leaving in droves despite having one of the lowest tax rates in the country.

There's definitely correlation, and I wouldn't dream of dismissing it as complete bunk, but of course as you point out there are also other factors to take into consideration as well which is why I don't like the simplistic thesis oh his article that these states are losing people solely because of high taxes.

For instance, I'd imagine real estate prices and cost of living particularly for those baby boomer retirees is likely also a large factor of why people are leaving the NE and moving to places like the mountain west, midwest, etc.
