I mean, if liberals cared all that much about the nuanced difference of
"lying" vs. "not a true statement" they wouldn't have slaughtered Bush over WMDs in Iraq. But that's another can of worms.
Besides, it's also not true that Obama said "if you like your health plan, you can keep it" to sell a project still in development. He (or his administration) said that exact line for years:
- before the law was signed
- after signature but before HHS released its regs concerning the law
- and after HHS released the regs
At least once, he prefaced the line with "No matter how we reform health care...." During the 2012 debates (long after the law was implemented) he said "If you've got health insurance, it doesn't mean a government takeover. You keep your own insurance. You keep your own doctor."
Let's be clear: This was not a one-off line, it was something he hammered, over and over again, at all phases of the process, and after the process was long over and the law was fully in effect.
Anyway, repeal and replacement of Obamacare is off to a good start, what with one of the most odious aspects of it gone (individual mandate) and Congress talking about removing another odious aspect (minimum standard of coverage.) The idea that you can be taxed for not doing something is pretty awful in my book - so ending that practice qualifies as magnificent. [Post edited by MaizeAndBlueWahoo at 01/17/2018 5:30PM]
