I spent a lot of time getting a purple heart rescinded in Vietnam

One of the men in my battery (I was XO) was med- evacuated to Japan for surgery. He was returned for duty, and along with him came a purple heart award given by some officer in Japan.

He was injured when he went into Nha Trang on leave, and got drunk and his hand was run over by a pedicab as he was crawling across the street. It was a real pain in the butt, interviewing witnesses, writing letters, etc to get the PH reemoved from his records.
