I imagine the radical Christian body count is much higher over here in any given non-2001 year. And guys like this still get the treatment - even from the "liberal" standard-bearer NYT - of "quiet, nerdy kid from tight-knit, godly family." Couldn't you describe Mohammed Atta as a "quiet guy from a tight-knit, religious family, who was borderline obsessed with airplanes"? Why does this murderer warrant the sympathetic, kid-gloves treatment?

The idea that we're surprised that a "nice" white Christian kid could be a terrorist is EXACTLY the problem.
