Nobody wins, everyone loses
But the thinking is that in China, Xi has a lot more latitude to let his people suffer longer in a trade war. So if everyone's sales drop hurting both countries' farmers, he is more willing and able to wait it out to get the upper hand in a trade war. So in the trade war, we are likely to be hurt initially, then will cede the upper hand to China at the negotiating table. It is an all around terrible idea where everyone loses, but China is likely to lose less than us. The obvious caveat here is I cannot predict the future with 100% accuracy.
