Being pro-life and pro-choice are not mutually exclusive

No one that I know is FOR abortions, even though many are pro choice. Here's a simple truth: Planned parenthood, through its work to educate and provide support to prevent unwanted pregnancies has prevented many many more abortions than any of the strident "pro life" activists.

My wife is a retired RN who worked as a Lamaze instructor, obstetrics nurse, and lactation consultant. She has said she didn't think she could have an abortion herself, even in the case of rape. Non-the-less, she has always been pro choice as she has seen first hand the horrible difficult situations some pregnant women face. One example I recall was a 12 year girl, raped by her father. A second was a nursing classmate of hers who married, and in early pregnancy contracted rubella. Abortion was totally banned in Virginia at the time. Her classmate, being connected to UVA hospital, was able to have a quiet D and C procedure that ended her pregnancy. I'm sure that if a complete abortion ban is ever enacted, similar favors will be done for those who are well connected.
