I disagree with this. And I think it's important - to defeating Trumpism.
I personally feel as you do about Trump and his admin. I see the "TV show" and can't understand how anyone can support this.
Yet many people do. I don't think it is half or close to that who are really Trump minions, but it may be around half when you factor in all the people who are willing to hold their noses and support him, especially when the economy looks strong, which of course always benefits the guy in office no matter the cause-effect relationship.
The analogy to me is the OJ trial. Black Americans and white Americans watched the same trial but saw a completely different story. Uncanny how reliable that split was. It wasn't that each side was blindly loyal to their race. They saw the same thing from different angles, like looking at a giant shadow that looks like a cloud from one vantage point and a gerbil from a different one.
That same phenomenon is going on with perceptions of the Trump admin. We can choose to decide that all those who support (25% to 30%) or at least tolerate (maybe as much as 50% or more - right now, I would not bet against a Trump win in 2020) Trump are evil, morally empty humans. Lord knows, you can see all the demonization of the anti-Trump side from Trumpies, which is just as bad and divisive. First and foremost, that is an intellectually lazy copout. I reject out of hand that 25% to 50% of the population of the US is indecent and unreasonable. I have some close friends who are Trumpies - in the 25%. They are still my friends, even though I can't quite get their viewpoints. Good dads, work hard, don't cheat on their wives, etc.
And your view means we don't even try to see the giant shadow from the other viewpoint. We just dismiss those seeing that angle as indecent and unreasonable. If anything is more dangerous than Trump, it's this incredible divide in our country. Which ironically in my view is part of why we have Trump.
