I can honestly see why he's confused at the uproar

A lot of the crazy stuff he said was stuff he's already said before. He has repeatedly denied Russia had anything to do with our elections. He has repeatedly refused to believe our intelligence agencies. At the G20 last year, he said Putin claimed he didn't meddle in our elections.

I guess the uproar was that it made him look weak when doing it next to Putin, he didn't question Putin at all, and he defended Putin/Russia even when he didn't have to. But those aren't new characteristics. He just did it in front of Putin/the world.

Trump was rehashing stuff he's always done, so to him I can see why he wouldn't understand why what he did was such a disaster for the President of the United States. I guess it's easier for Trump supporters to see the Emperor has no clothes when he's standing in Putin's shadow instead of in front of his base.
