I agree, that's why none of it makes sense. Putting aside


blaming Obama for the bad risk pools of the ACA or blaming the GOP for eliminating the backstop for insurers, I'd like someone to explain the economics that get you to a $36K premium + deductibles, co-pays, etc. As PalmyraHoo posts below, that doesn't just assume a bad risk pool, that assumes everyone insured gets cancer or has a heart attack every 2nd or 3rd year. It just doesn't make any sense.

If the answer is just Optima is the only game in town so there's no pricing competition and they can charge whatever they want, well you'd be able to point to massive profits at Optima health and I'd think the regulators would be able to address that. What possible justification could Optima present that would support $36K in premiums.
