It's not. It is neither angry or racist.There are tensions that remain from
last year and of course there has always been tension between the University and the people it attracts to C'ville, and the town, especially the poorer parts of the population. Much of what I remember as a student as the "bad parts of town" have been gentrified, which has forced a lot of people out of town or into low income housing, and there is not enough of that.
And yes, this is a progressive community. As someone who has visited C'Ville regularly for 64 years,to visit non UVA related relatives, and for UVA related events, who spent four years here in the mid 70's and has lived here for over 5 years now, what I see is the growth of the University and professionals aligned with the school, the hospital, and the research center, and the number of ex UVA people returning in their latter years, have greatly changed the demographics of the city.
