As probably the only poster on this board that actually deals with flood


zones and housing. i can tell you that a lot of places are built in flood zones simply because they were not mapped for a long long time. also, the maps change over time and housing that was not in a flood zone now can be. so imagine being someone that thought you didn't need flood insurance only to find out that a new map released in the last 3 years says you now do. this shit happens all the time. i am currently looking a property that will be in a flood zone when the preliminary map that is slated for release next summer becomes official. its not currently in one. now they have to get flood insurance.

helping spur people to do what needs to be done to their homes for better protect them does not strike me as a bad thing
