We do Wednesday Thanksgiving at my dad's house with my mom's side of the family (mom passed, but the gathering was always there and remains so). Most everyone there is somewhere on the spectrum of rational thought or else know better than to say anything that will eventually make them look foolish.

We're traveling to Raleigh for Thanksgiving day and weekend to be with most of my wife's side. No issues there (besides my MIL, who means well but just can't help but blurt an aggressive lament from the 'femilitant' left side even if she's more-or-less preaching to the choir). But, in addition to my BIL's family, his FIL and MIL will be there. He's a Hannity fan and she's Bible nut and they both believe 45 is an instrument of God here to do his will, so everything else can be ignored.

I'm pretty good about having measured discussions and diverting to something less incendiary if they arise or staying away from them entirely. So are my wife, BIL, and SIL. My FIL and MIL, on the other hand, are going to let a comment slip over the course of the few days we're there. They like talking politics as part of casual conversation, so talk of the election et al. will inevitably come up. It got ugly once this summer and I don't see any way it doesn't this week. We're all holding on to our butts.
