I’m not sure I get your point. His dramatic

1 year drop in popularity from historic highs following the gulf war to his loss in 1992 has been consistently mentioned. In fact some here took offense with it being mentioned by cnn. You think it’s being ignored?

And I think it’s overstating the case to call his defeat a “thorough rejection by the electorate”. Clinton won with 43% of the vote. He benefited from a) being a skilled and charismatic politician, b) having a bad economy to focus and capitalize on with his campaign (which he did quite effectively), and c) last but certainly not least, a 3rd party candidate who garnered nearly 20% of the vote

If the election was 6 months earlier or later, or if Perot doesn’t run, I think you have 8 years of GHWB. Hardly a scenario I would characterize as a “thorough rejection by the electorate”
