I think the operative message is:


no matter how historic the midterm House win was for the dems, the history of such victories in midterms suggests that you can't infer too much about the next pres election from them. In '94; in '10, the repubs did not retake the presidency 2 years later.

So, I would take this thread as a cautionary note. The last line of Laz's initial post is nothing more than a boast. If that cockiness permeates dem primary voters in 2020, and they go too far left with the nominee, guess what? 4 more years of Trump (would be my prediction anyway).

I'm pleased about the depth and breadth of the dem House win. But I'd suggest dems and anti-Trumpies of all stripes consider 2020 to be an uphill battle, not a sure thing.
