People say all sorts of things that are crazy, wishful, and false
See, also, nearly every man on the street interview with a Trumpleton when they try to explain all the awesome things that Donnie is doing for the nation.
There is no shortage of people who wish that hate speech was not protected. They will very often rely on an argument of the sort that hate speech is actively harmful in some way (like shouting fire in a crowded theater) and therefore isn't protected. They are wrong. It's why the Nazis were allowed to march in Skokie, IL, for example, or the Tiki Nazis in Charlottesville.
That does not protect speech in a private arena (such as Facebook or Twitter), or from non-governmental consequences (losing your job). It just means you don't go to jail for being a hateful non-violent asshole.
