Who cares? Why so much concern over the politics of a 30-something
soccer player? My parents spent the better part of my life "protesting" some of the things I do, or things I believe in. But you know, they loved me and all, and would always back me when needed. In fact they protested so much because they loved me. I'm sure that analogy won't sit well with some, but point is, expressing disappointment with a thing does not prevent you from loving that thing. In Rapinoe's mind, it might be an expression of love for country, along with hope that it fixes whatever problems she's protesting.
Should the entire soccer team have boycotted because of unequal pay issue? Is it a problem that they decide to play and protest for equal pay at the same time? If that's part of the reason they take a knee (I don't even think she went so far as to take a knee), is that ok with you?
But mostly, why does anyone care? I like Rapinoe and all, and respect what she's accomplished, but I'm not taking political cues from her.
