We've been saying the same things for years
When it comes to *playing* soccer. The fact is that youth participation in all sports has been declining in recent years. Demographic changes, the advent of video games, academic pursuits, etc. Many would also argue that soccer, in particular, has been hurt by the rise of "pay for play" when it comes to getting the most out of the highest-potential prospects.
From a TV perspective, I'd agree. The premier league is doing pretty well (basically starting from zero just a few years ago) and the trends with football viewership are pretty well-documented. This is probably particularly true in your bubble in Arlington. The handful of high schools that I know of that have stopped fielding football teams are primarily Latino at this point (Park View in Sterling is 80% Hispanic). It has more to do with the changing demographics than the safety issues (well documented) or a general decline in interest (we'll see). [Post edited by Capital City Hoo at 07/10/2019 10:50AM]
