I have a 6th grader and and 8th grader. I'd love free college tuition. I could use the money in their 529s to finish out their high school tuition. And I've been talking with my financial planner about shutting it down in the next 3 to maybe 5 years anyway. But healthcare is a big variable. I'll gladly take medicare for all as a backstop, and then pay for concierge options on top. And like you, when I shut it down, I'll have almost no W2 income.... mostly dividend income, some tax exempt interest income, probably some taxable interest income, but nothing that would push me into the truly punitive rates that I'm sure are coming. And yeah, I think I've paid my fair share over the last 25 years or so, so I won't feel guilty at all.
