Well, ironically that’s what their voter base thought too. This party is

far more reflective of their actual values (white nationalism, theocracy, cultural conservatism) than the old one (the “you didn’t build that” party) was.

Hate to say it, but the long term solution to today’s GOP is to let nature and mathematics take their course. It won’t happen overnight though, and there is no going back to the party of John Warner, Bob Dole, and Ronald Reagan.
