Funny story about "brown kids". When I was a kid, my younger sister
had made a new friend at school (I'm guessing she was in kindergarten or first grade at the time) and in talking to my mom about him, she mentioned that he was "brown". My mom gently corrected my sister saying that even though his skin might be brown in color, you would say that he's "black", not brown. But my sister kept insisting that he was brown. It turns out when my parents went to back to school night, they met her new friend Raúl's parents, who were Hispanic, and were indeed "brown". We have a good laugh with my parents about that from time to time, and give them a hard time for not being clued in by the fact that her friend's name was Raúl.
