1. Victim statement: The media is trying to use total number of cases and deaths (not per capita) while focusing on tests per capita (not total)!

Well, yes.  Even with our *significantly* limited testing capacity, we *still* have more cases than anywhere else in the world (though of course China is lying).  If we were closer to the more extensive testing levels of other countries, our number of confirmed cases would be astronomically higher than their confirmed cases.

2. Victim statement: Italy has 1,386 confirmed cases per million while the US only has 283 confirmed cases per million!  The US is so much better, and the media is mean to Trump to compare them!

The experts have been saying for at least a month that we are about 2 weeks behind Italy.

Those stats the writer cited are from March 27th.  On March 13th - exactly 2 weeks before - Italy had 283 confirmed cases per million (17,660 cases, he used 62.4M population).

Since the point in #1 above is that our confirmed cases are *way* undercounted, the fact that our cases per capita match Italy exactly 2 weeks before, could actually mean we're on a worse path than Italy.

Our death rate does seem to be lower than Italy's, even with such limited data (thank goodness), probably given their older population(?).

But the writer's concluding point: "The media wants you to believe that the coronavirus in the United States is spiraling out of control the way it did in Italy. Fact check: it isn't" clearly comes from someone who needs a fact check on how exponential growth works.

That doesn't mean we'll end up at the same point as Italy, but this isn't some media conspiracy - it's actually the writer leaving out key components of math, limits on testing in the US, and timeline.
