statistics exists for a reason. I agree, and have stated exactly the same about deaths per million. It too must have scrutiny applied because of where we are on the curve. (oddly Worldofmeters actually shows Italy reporting their first case 9 days after we did) That number can only go up. Deaths per positive case is also meaningful, but that might be more of an indicator of the quality of our healthcare system compared to other countries. However that too needs scrutiny applied, and has to wait to be more meaningful because our system has not yet been overwhelmed like other country's systems have been. Hopefully we'll be much better equipped to handle it, but we have to expect that number will likely get worse (until you factor in an increase of positives from more testing, but more of those tests/positives being from the milder cases).

What isn't meaningful for evaluation purposes is total deaths, and then comparing that to countries much smaller than ours (or countries like China hoos statistics should be doubted). That's being done strictly for fear mongering and political bashing purposes. And with the more meaningful statistics above, that should be obvious to anyone. But those quoting those stats either don't care, or assume their audience is too lazy or stupid to realize it. That's the point of the article. (BTW I would say the same about Trump standing up there yesterday touting that we've now done more tests than any other country. Good to know we're ramping this up, but it's an equally meaningless statistic vs tests per capita)
