Your questions go to the heart of the matter, a view of the role of federal

government that is not in sync with the needs of this crisis, bears some responsibility. The slow and ineffective response from the Feds can be explained not only by a leadership vacuum but also by an aberrant and philosophical view of the role of the federal government, in being the primary organizing force to fight a common enemy.

The view seems to be that states and localities must fend for themselves and expect the minimum of help from above. As just one example of the lack of cohesion in unity of effort, each of the 50 states AND FEMA have been bidding amongst themselves for the few critical medical supplies, like the few ventilators that exist. That is counterproductive and insane.

There are many things that the governors can and are doing but they are all crying out for assistance from the Feds on things that the states cannot do by themselves. This is a NATIONAL crisis and it demands a national response, which we still are not seeing, even as we are told that 100K to 240K of us may not be living in 3 months.
