since December, had just gotten back to Denver on the 15th after we got him home for hospice, and he seemed to be settling in. He was so happy to get out of the rehab/nursing place!

I thought he was going to be with us for a considerable period of time but he took a turn for the worse late on the 19th. I got back to Virginia the afternoon of the 21st and he passed away about 20 minutes after I sat down next to him. As if he were waiting for me.

I stayed in Virginia working on estate stuff and getting the house ready to list all the way through May 10, have been back in CO since then. It was kind of a long goodbye to the house and property I grew up in and on. Best place in the world to quarantine.

I'm happy for you; one of the things my dad and I used to do is drive down to Williamsburg and cross the river at the Scotland Island Ferry, eat lunch at the Virginia Diner, buy peanuts across the street and then head over to Smithfield for country ham. We'd take the ferry back and go to Williamsburg to the candy shop on the Duke of Gloucester St, and load up, then head back home. He would give all this stuff out as Christmas presents to friends, golf buddies, employees, etc.

He loved it down there; his mother was from York County around Camp Peary and he summered at Sharps on the Rappahannock. He was a quintessential Tidewater boy but he raised his children in the rolling hills of the northern Piedmont.

On our little Southside jaunts we always talked about taking VA 10 over to Hopewell and crossing that bridge for the return trip, but when push came to shove he always wanted chocolate and there was only one place he bought it. So I've never been to your neck of the woods. Sounds wonderful for you though.

Dad was 95; I would definitely say he and your dad got their money's worth out of this life.
