The flag is displayed next to our front door every day
And I completely accept and understand Kaepernick's kneeling to protest grievances of the African American community in the US.. I see nothing there that disrespects the flag or the country.
I served as an officer in Vietnam, my dad served in WW II, my wife's dad served in the USMC in WW II and in Korea at Chosin Reservoir. At the top of the list of amendments to the constitution is this: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." Nowhere is there a requirement to display insincere patriotism if a person chooses not to do so.
