Have been debating this with a Trump-voting relative today ... My

contention is that Trump is setting American conservatism back 30 years or more -- perhaps doing irreparable damage, and it's not worth it for 4 years of policy I somewhat agree with (don't agree on immigration and trade, mainly, and those are basically the only 2 things he talks about) and a couple SC Justices.

Republicans took the wrong message from 8 years of Obama. He was just a good candidate and popular guy. Mitt Romney would've beaten Clinton in '16 and would beat Biden in '20. The GOP does not need Trump to win (look at the Governors races from 2010 to 2016).

In the past 5 years, each of PA, OH, FL, NV, NC, MI, WI, AZ have all had at least 1 Republican Governor. The notion that Republicans can't win these states with a good candidate is bunk.

In addition, the far left wing that's taking over the Democratic party a little bit at a time (IMO) is not broadly popular. I think people are much more worried about the far left than they are about rich people getting tax cuts, for example.

But Trump set all that shit on fire...
