He and many others were very much considered as traitors by the British.


And I don't know anyone is honoring Washington for his slave owning.

On statues and monuments, I believe we need to be clear when we honoring someone, we are honoring particular aspect of the person, not the entire person. For Lee, I think it is ok for Virginia to honor him for defending his home state. Or even for West Point to honor him for being superintendent and brilliant military mind. But no reason for his statue to be elsewhere.
