My opinion is that employer-sponsored health insurance (ESHI) has to go


The only reason Proposition 22 is a problem (and it absolutely is a problem) is because there is no way these companies are viable if they are forced to provide ESHI for their workers. I believe that ESHI should be taxed as regular income after a five year phase-in period so that employers would be encouraged to seek out cheaper alternatives. My preferred replacement for ESHI is somewhat complicated but it is basically private insurance (needed to control costs) and government subsidies to cover pre-existing conditions. I'm not a huge fan of single payer because it doesn't do enough to control costs but I believe it is preferable to ESHI.
